E-E-A-T Editorial Verification Standard

Evaluation Methodology & Verification Standards

The standardized verification methodology we apply across motor and controller specifications, battery cell safety certification, braking performance data, and range claims — before an e-bike earns a place in our reviews.

Scope of this page: This describes the verification methodology we apply, not physical testing or a certification. Individual reviews cite the specific manufacturer specifications, safety certifications, and third-party sources checked for that model.

01

Motor & Controller Specification Verification

We verify manufacturer-published motor and controller specifications against official spec sheets and cross-check them against aggregated third-party review data, rather than taking marketing figures at face value.

  • Manufacturer spec verification: Continuous and peak wattage figures are checked against official manufacturer documentation.
  • Cross-source consistency check: Published torque and output figures are compared across manufacturer spec sheets, retailer listings, and third-party reviews, flagging discrepancies.
  • Aggregated performance data: Torque-curve and RPM-range figures are drawn from aggregated published third-party dynamometer testing, cited to source.
02

Battery Specification & Safety Certification Verification

We verify manufacturer-published battery capacity and chemistry specifications directly against certification records — see our guide to UL 2849 vs. UL 2271 fire safety standards for what these certifications actually cover.

  • UL 2849 / UL 2271 certification verification: Certification records are checked directly against the relevant safety standard, not assumed from marketing claims.
  • Cell origin verification: Manufacturer documentation is reviewed to confirm tier-1 cell suppliers (LG/Samsung/Panasonic) where disclosed.
  • Published capacity cross-check: Manufacturer-stated Wh capacity and chemistry are cross-referenced against retailer and third-party review documentation.
03

Braking Performance Research

Stopping-distance and brake-fade figures are drawn from aggregated published third-party testing and manufacturer safety documentation — not our own on-track measurement — cited to their original source for direct comparability.

  • Aggregated stopping-distance data: 20–0 MPH stopping distances are sourced from published third-party reviews and manufacturer safety documentation, cited to source.
  • Surface-condition disclosure: Where available, dry vs. wet surface conditions are noted alongside the cited source's reported figures.
  • Brake-fade reporting: Reported brake-fade findings from cited third-party sources are summarized, not independently re-tested.
04

Range Verification & Aggregated Field Data

Manufacturer-claimed range figures are cross-referenced against aggregated real-world range data reported by owners and third-party reviewers, cited to source.

  • Manufacturer claim verification: Manufacturer-published range figures are checked against official specifications.
  • Aggregated real-world data: Owner- and reviewer-reported range figures are aggregated from published sources and compared against manufacturer claims.
  • Ride-mode breakdown: Where cited sources report it, range is broken out separately for throttle-only vs. pedal-assist use.
