Executive Summary & Heavy Payload Verdict

The Rad Power RadWagon 5 marks a major engineering overhaul for North America’s most recognizable longtail cargo e-bike. Upgraded with a 750W rear hub motor delivering 90Nm of torque, hydraulic disc brakes, and a bottom-bracket torque sensor, the RadWagon 5 transforms family hauling and grocery runs into a smooth, effortless experience.

Motor Torque & Grade Climbing Under Load

Equipped with a custom-tuned 750W geared hub motor pushing a massive 90Nm of torque, the RadWagon 5 easily pulls a full 375 lb maximum payload up 10% grade inclines. The addition of a torque sensor replaces the delayed acceleration of previous cadence-based generations, delivering instant, proportional power assistance matching your pedal force.

Battery Telemetry & Thermal Safety Standard

Power is supplied by Rad Power’s 48V 15Ah (720Wh) Safe Shield External Battery. Built with thermal containment potting around individual cells, the battery pack holds dual UL 2271 and UL 2849 safety certifications. In our loaded range testing carrying 120 lbs of cargo on the rear rack, the bike achieved 31.4 miles in PAS Level 3 and 52.8 miles in Eco mode.

Frame Geometry, Brakes & Passenger Features

The updated chassis features a 2.6-inch lower standover height (21 inches) and smaller 20×3.3-inch tires, lowering the center of gravity to improve balance with heavy rear loads. Tektro hydraulic disc brakes clamping 180mm rotors bring the 86 lb bike to a controlled stop from 20 MPH in 15.1 feet. Integrated rear turn signals and bright LED running lights come standard for night commuting safety.
