Our evaluation methodology is built around three categories of hardware data that matter most for rider safety and real-world performance: manufacturer-published specifications, verified safety certifications, and aggregated third-party review data — not marketing claims taken at face value.

• Motor and controller specification verification: we cross-check manufacturer-published torque, wattage, and controller amperage figures against official spec sheets and aggregated third-party review data, flagging inconsistencies rather than taking marketing copy at face value.
• Battery safety certification verification: we verify battery management system and cell safety claims directly against UL 2271 / UL 2849 certification records and manufacturer documentation — see our guide to UL 2849 vs. UL 2271 fire safety standards for what these certifications actually cover.
• Braking performance research: stopping-distance and brake-fade figures are drawn from aggregated published third-party reviews and manufacturer safety documentation, cited to their original source — not our own on-track measurement.
